Speakers are the principal crowd-puller at every TED conference. Because TEDxBratislava is a regional event, we intended to invite mostly Slovak speakers. But we also contacted personalities from other countries in order to draw up a well-balanced 359° view.

Become a part of TEDxBratislava. You can participate in several ways (as participant, sponsor, volunteer or local livecast organizer).

We are looking for active, perceptive and open-minded people from all fields who understand that it is not important what they will hear and keep for themselves, but how they will use all those thoughts.

Speakers

A TED or TEDx conference without speakers would be nothing. It’s the speakers with their talks who attract people to the event, or webstream. It’s the speakers’ ideas (worth spreading), thoughts (opening our eyes), courage and imagination (encouraging and inspiring us), as well as the art of sharing their emotions and joy of being creative and productive with others.

For the TEDx Bratislava 2011 organizing team, the quest for speakers is the greatest challenge – they are the bottom line of everything. Besides, the number of great people who have a lot to say and contribute is much bigger than the number of slots in the event’s programme. This is why we didn’t look for speakers alone, but, just like last year, we also involved last year’s speakers, as well as TEDx participants and fans.

This year’s event is a direct follow-up to last year’s “Mind Wide Open” theme. “Creating the Future. Today.” aspires to be a continuation of the process in which minds are opened and directly involved in activities bringing us a better, richer and more intense future.

Anetka began in Divé maky five years ago, when her teacher Mrs. Kveta Gajdošová advised her to apply for the aptitude tests. She has never had singing and music theory before, because in her family, as most Roma families, exclusively men are supported in developing the musical talent . That little girl that was allways trilling around didn't interest anyone. By joining Divé maky suddenly new opportunities opened for her and she wasn't afraid, on the contrary, she firmly grasped them in her hands.

Anetka has worked hard, she has attended music school, where she had to catch up in two years with what others were learning eight years. Soon the results of her perseverance and tenacity brought the first fruit. She handled the entrance exam and was accepted to the Conservatory in Prague, where is she studying third year. This experience strengthened her and moved her not only in the site of education, but also in the site of personality.

"When I compare Aneta five years ago with that one today, it's an incredible change. From timorous girl with her ​​head bowed and silent voice she became noble young lady with the sovereign expression where smile, charm, communication with the audience or mischievous sparkle in his eyes are not missing, "says Lucia Dohnalová.

Her patron Lucia Hablovičová is very proud of her and also thanks to her Aneta has improved grades, found many new friends and considering entering college. BUt she still has ahead a long and challenging journey, but the important thing is that she wants to keep the direction she has chosen.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBratislava, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBratislava event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
